The Story of Cosmetics |
Hi . Scott here. Right now I am with Kristian visiting his grandmom and great aunt in Delray Beach, FL. So why am I taking the time to write and send this email to you. What could be more important than taking Kristian to the beach (he luuuuuves the big waves)? Let me tell you.
We just got back from dinner and in my email box was a note from the 11 other founding members of the Green Spa Network (we are the 12th "Seed Spa") about the just released Story of Cosmetics from Free Range Studios. The information in this film is nothing new and is nothing that we at ESSpa do not already know. What makes this film such a big deal is that it follows in the footsteps of Food Inc and Gasland and other documentaries which have found a way to shine an easy to understand light on subjects that are somewhat (and intentionally) murky. It is important and relevant because the average American intentionally exposes herself/himself to hundreds if not thousands of toxins each and every day before breakfast. If you don't believe that statement, just read the labels on your toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, aftershave, hair gel, lipstick, cologne, etc. etc.
etc.
This fun 8 minute film is about what is actually in 99% of all those
cosmetics products on store shelves and probably YOUR shelves (but not on the shelves at ESSpa
Kozmetika). So without any further commentary, I invite you to watch The Story of Cosmetics (and read more of my thoughts after). Just Click Below:
To be sure, I, Eva and our entire team agree with Annie Leonard that
the vast majority of cosmetics that are marketed as "natural" or
"organic" or whatever are most definitely NOT. And while we don't
necessarily think that more government regulation and/or legislation is
the answer, we DO believe that you can never have too much information.
THAT is the difference and THAT is what drives the ESSpa Kozmetika Green
Mission - we are green because we have taken the time to educate
ourselves about the ingredients that are in the products we use and offer for sale. Eva and I would never willingly give up our individual responsibility to ourselves
or to YOU and not want to know exactly what we are putting in and/or on our face,
body, nails, etc. Yes, the choices are endless our their and the manufacturers are ruthless in their packaging and saavy marketing (cosmetic companies spend exponentially more money on packaging and marketing than they do on the actual stuff in the jar) but at the end of the day WE must choose what WE use and live with the results of our actions. Personally, I am just a little bit tired of everyone passing the buck and waiting for someone else to "protect us" from our own insatiable demand for immediate gratification. Eva and I just want you to live as healthy as possible and still look great - and to do so on your own terms. In closing, I would like to thank all of you for making our sponsorship of the 2010 US Womens' Open @ Oakmont Country Club such a great success. Based on your overwhelming positive response, we are going to offer a very special opportunity to win Complimentary Tickets for Two to see Paul McCartney at the Consol Center.
So grab the kids, wake the neighbors, forward this email to a friend and call a sitter because the summer is heating up at ESSpa Kozmetika. And remember, Eva and I know you are the reason for our success.
PS - The folks at the spa don't know anything about the Paul McCartney Tickets (I just got the tickets while I was in Florida) so please send me an email so I can put you on the short list for details as they become available (meaning, after Eva and I figure out what the actual deal will be) Spa you Soon,
